About this game
Star Wing is a fast space shooter about survival and quick reflexes. You pilot a small fighter across a starfield while three kinds of enemy ship try to stop you: standard fighters that fly straight down, swoopers that sweep in from the sides, and heavy gunships that take three hits to destroy. Your twin cannons fire while you hold the space bar, or automatically while your finger is on a touchscreen. Enemies are worth 100, 150 or 300 points depending on how tough they are. Roughly every half minute the difficulty steps up: ships arrive more often, move faster and are more likely to come in pairs. You start with three lives, and floating power-ups drop from the top of the screen, giving either an extra life (up to five) or a 500-point bonus. A quick dodge roll makes your ship invulnerable for a moment, which is perfect for slipping through a wall of enemy fire. The run ends when you lose your last life, and top scores go on the global leaderboard.
Controls
- Keyboard: move with the arrow keys or W, A, S and D. Hold Space to fire. Press Z or Shift for a dodge roll.
- Phone or tablet: touch and drag on the game screen. Your ship follows your finger and fires automatically.
- Press Enter, Space or click the screen to start, and again after game over.
- Your ship can roam the lower half of the screen, and the level number and lives are shown at the top.
Tips and strategy
- Use the full width of the screen. Your ship stays in the lower half, so slide sideways early to line up shots instead of chasing enemies.
- Treat the dodge roll as a shield, not a panic button. It lasts about half a second, so time it just as fire reaches you, then return to position.
- Focus on the heavy gunships first. They take three hits, so putting them down early keeps the screen from filling up.
- Grab falling power-ups when it is safe. An extra life is worth more than the 500 bonus, but you can only hold five lives at once.
- Keep drifting while you shoot. Enemy fire is much easier to avoid when you are moving than when you sit still.
- On a touchscreen, place your finger a little below the ship so you can still see it. It follows your finger, so you only have to steer.
